Hello, i'm 25. For around 5-6 years i've been eating for lunch every day processed vegan "meat". Either a vegan burger, vegan hot dog etc... Before that i ate real meat every day for lunch.
I'm so used to it that i think that without it i just won't feel full. I always eat it with some kind of fabaceae.
I have 2 questions:
1. Is it unhealthy to eat processed vegan "meat" every day? Should i stop eating it completely?
2. If it is indeed unhealthy, what should i replace it with? So i feel full.. And get enough protein of course.
Thank you

Why are you eating the same thing every day? (And by the way, welcome to Great Food Forum!)

At 25, your body is very forgiving, but that won't always be the case. Less processed food is better, of course, but you're stating you only eat that during lunch. So what are you having for breakfast and for dinner? If you're eating the same thing day in and day out for one meal, you have a great chance to try new things, especially at-desk type meals. Instead of worrying you won't feel full, why not try new things and pack some snacks and see if you actually would be full from other combinations. Doesn't mean you have to exclude all your vegan processed stuff, but you could try to limit it. Lots of different products out there---some better than others. Here's my 2 cents...you're 25...think of the years of great food adventures you can have. Why limit yourself to a few things when the world has so much to offer. Now is the time to seize the day. Try one or two lunches with new stuff and work towards a goal.

There's a pretty extensive article on new processed meat like vegie burgers. Consumer Reports October 2019. they talk about soy leghemoglobin ( no never heard of it before either) , a compound from the roots of the soybean plant being used to give burgers their "meaty" taste and texture. the soy leghemoglobin is inserted into a genetically engineered yeast called pichia pastoris, and the final compound is produced in large quantities. you could pick up a copy of the magazine if you want to read it, several page article. this stuff is really processed!
I don't like or eat meat. I tasted a version of this kind of burger a few months ago, thought it was inedible and tossed it. I don't eat red meat so anything that mimics it will not be a big hit here. I was ovo lacto vegie for 30+ years, now eat a little chicken/fish too. time will tell whether this a good alternative to meat, but it is definitely not for me. you should read about how its produced and the plus/minus factors.

Interesting. Thanks. We eat some meat when out. (Beef and ham.) At home, just some bacon for flavoring. (Hubby cuts up, freezes...so a handful is always on hand when he makes pintos, green beans, etc.) He eats salmon at home. Not me. As for those premade pretend me products, mostly they seem to taste gross. (Except Quorn...made from a fungus, I believe.) I seldom see the need for any fake meat when so much food is available to us...other foods. For instance, a fresh tomato with onion with or without cheddar SANDWICH is wonderful. But what I'm trying to mention and keep dragging on is: I have cookbooks that tell how to make replacements to meat at home. Some sound awesome. I've thought about trying some. Zero processing perhaps...unless they include soy. Question: is *all* processing bad -- soybean wise? We love soy sauce! Husband tells me he has now read that article. They like Amy's Veggie Burger...made with real ingreds and not that root of soy bean. The root, so husband tells me, has not been eaten before...so this is new to us, I guess. I'll read the article when I have more time. THANKS so much for sharing the info Traildoggie!

Glad you enjoyed it. it was the first detailed info I'd heard about the origin of new products. I don't plan on using them. seemed pretty seriously "processed", plus I don't like red meat to begin with, so not going to like an imitation. Costco had a "vegie" burger a while ago, but neither of us could eat it. I'm guessing its an end product of this process but I cant remember what they were called. I didn't even try other ways to prepare , just trashed the package. I use Amy's or Garden burger and they are all Ok, not my favorite lunch but edible.
speaking of soy....I am wrestling with DH and his migraines. he thinks soy sauce is a trigger. so there are these products made from coconut aminos that mimic soy sauce. I have found several brands in a regular grocery Haggen, QFC, and it works. it is a little more expensive but not a budget killer.
