Or the subject of this post could be, how I waste my money.
Soooo, I bought a bottle of Taylor Dry Sherry awhile (and I mean awhile) back to use in a chicken dish. So I'm now left with an open bottle minus I'm guessing a few tablespoons. I went for an inexpensive bottle so I wouldn't be wasting $$.
Anyone know how long can you keep it? I smelled it, and well since I have no clue what dry sherry smells or tastes like.....
I'm in a toss out/donate kick so I'm thinking down the drain it will go since I don't want to ruin a dish with a bad ingredient.
I've been better about not buying an ingredient that I will likely hardly use, but oh not perfect. But I know certain ingredients are hard to sub. Of course, one could always just pick a different recipe, it is not like there are a million others out there.
I could use the extra room in that cabinet so that's a plus.
Thx

Sherry is a fortified wine and should last a good long time. They started fortifying wine so they could ship it across ocean voyages that took months and months and kept it drinkable.

I keep it for a long time. I use it mostly in Asian stirfries, but a bottle can last 6 or more months. I do wish I could buy half bottles.

Thanks you two! Down the drain it went. I had it for a long time so I knew I wasn't going to use it since not worth perhaps ruining the recipe. I wonder if I liked the chicken dish.

Next time keep it. I use my sherry, Marsala, vermouth and any other fortified wines/alcohols for a LONG LONG time and never had any problems. They keep for quite some time.
Too late now, though! Karen

Karen I wouldn't be surprised if it was good but oh well.... I haven't thought of using it in sooo long, guess it wasn't an ingredient that I really need. And hey the cabinet looks better. Thx.

I would say many years. I use a tablespoon or two in recipes, and float my fresh ginger root in it, I've had current bottle probably 5 years. It never changes. I keep in a dark cabinet and will use it until its gone. its a cheap one, not anything I would drink by itself.
