I'm looking for a medical alert system for my 93 year old dad. There are lots of options out there, and we haven't done much research yet.
We want one that would detect if he falls, or feels sick. And one that has a GPS since he will be out and about. Easy to use (I also thought that he can easily hear or up volume). Water resistant since he will wear in shower. He prefers something that he can wear on his wrist rather than around neck (but jury still out if that is a requirement).
Someone he knows has a newer apple watch that detects fall (I can't recall who it calls/who it is programmed too). I do want to make sure that if you ignore updates etc that it won't mess up features. And I don't know the other features, yet.
If anyone has any tips, suggestions, ones to avoid etc that would be terrific and GREATLY appreciated! .
Thx!

Sorry you aren't getting more help on this. I think the systems vary somewhat by location (especially the monitoring), so talking to people near where he lives may be the most valuable information. My mom had Alzheimer's and while the facility had monitors for the residents, they weren't really of much use in that setting. She did have a medic alert bracelet -- a jewelry type she wore, but not a monitor. My dad was given one when he moved into a senior residential setting. We moved him in part because I worried about falls and him not being found. I don't know if he ever wore it. So I would start with something he will actually keep with him -- at least in a pocket if not wearing around his neck or wrist. Sorry I cannot help more. I know it's a tough time.

Hi Beth,
Thanks so much for the reply and feedback. He is probably going with the newest Apple watch (and he has another type of gadget that he was given but that is worn around the neck and he didn't want to go that route). We learned about the watch since some of his friends have one. It has some new features that can detect falls and such. We just want him to have something when he is home and/or alone.
When he is out and about, on the golf course, playing cards etc there are people around. He said he doesn't want to wear something around his neck -- which I get since that would be annoying to sleep with etc.
If anyone has any reviews/suggestions I'm all ears. Might be helpful to others as well.
ETA -- nothing decided yet, so would love if anyone has any reviews/suggestions.
Thanks.
