Anybody paint? I found a steal on paint. (Paint these days is through-the-roof price wise.) At Amazon, Holbein has a 12 tube set of 15 ml (NOT 5 ml) pro tubes for about $38. I just rec'd mine. WOW. (I've read that the labels on this 'special' set is the old labels--they have changed them lately--but that's the only difference.)
Holbein is made in Japan, is supposed to be a really really good paint. The price I got them for is what some other pro companies sell a few basic tubes for. SO, if you need to update your watercolors, or want to get a not-student PRO set, here is your chance. Go check out Amazon. I'm SOOO excited! Beautiful colors. No black or white (relief). Love Holbein colors and they are wonderful to work with, so I see from reviews on line.
PS: I haven't bought paint in years and did not realize until these last couple of months that good watercolor paint (I mean, not student grade or one of the cheapo-made paints) is roughly $9 to $15 (and higher) PER TUBE nowadays! Check out normal Holbein, or Daniel Smith, or Winsor Newton, or Schminke, or Sennelier. It's like GOLD this stuff.
PPS: If you are interested ... I have news about Daniel Smith watercolor tubes. They are coming out with sets next month...5 ml tubes, I believe. There will be two or three sets of 6 tubes, I think...for sug retail of about $55...and one 12 or 13 tube set for sug retail of about $110 (as I recall).
PPPS: Also Winsor Newton has a set of 12 5 ml tubes that I almost bought at $110...went back to order and is now over $130. Dang...prices are changing by the minute.
So, based on some of this, you can see that the Holbein is a good, good deal. It's paint is rated way up their with those big boys, too. 15 ml tubes!!!!! That is so surprising a size that people have questioned it. I can verify YES...this set I just rec'd is 15 mL.
