DH and I are planning to try this program for 6 weeks to help us get back into a better routine of eating more vegetables and lose a few pounds. I just got the book. Have any of you tried it and have any tips to share? Eating a pound of raw vegetables and a pound of cooked vegetables per day sounds daunting, but as he breaks it down and I think about it, I don't think it will be that difficult.
It's so easy to slip out of eating lots of veggies and replacing them with convenience foods. We've been working on a big, personal project these last two months and I haven't had time to do a lot of cooking, so that's contributed to leaning on energy bars and easy to grab foods. We miss our veggies and are both looking forward to this!

I've watched his presentation on public television and read his book The End of Diabetes. I've also looked at some of Dr McDougall's information, since a friend collaborated with him on a project. I'd done well eating a kind of mish-mash of the plans, but then fell off the wagon when I got super busy and stressed. I'm at the point where I've read so much conflicting information that I'm not sure what to eat.
I'll be very interested to hear how you do on his program. Are you following The Eat to Live book or are you getting info from his website? Barb

Hi Julie, I've never tried it but I think I've caught parts of his specials on PBS, so sorry I can't give any input. Is that the plan that is largely focused on fruit, veg, beans, nuts/seeds?
That does sound like quite a bit of veggies but I can't really visualize how that would break out through out the day. I wonder how much fruit and veggies I really eat on average/day. Good luck with the program and would love to hear your feedback.
Get that big salad bowl out! : )
And Barbara I soo agree that it is often so confusing to figure out what the best food choices are since what is good, is then bad, bad is now good. But a twinkie, bag of Doritos, washed down by a Slurpie is never going to be good. Ha.

I've also got his PBS special on DVR to watch. I hear you when it comes to trying to figure out who to listen to. Since we're on a heart disease reversal mission, a plant based whole food diet is our approach. We're vegetarian, avoid sugar and eat processed oils sparingly. As far as I'm concerned it's the best thing we ever did. Cravings are gone and no more starving myself and dealing with the constant up and down with my weight. I love it.

DH and I sometimes stop at Whole Foods and make a salad from their salad bar. It's easy to make a salad that weighs more than a pound, but then I always top it with garbanzos or black beans or tofu, which probably weigh more than the rest! Still, I think it's very doable. I believe on Dr. Furhman's plan you're supposed to have a cup of beans a day too, which for DH and I shouldn't be difficult. We eat beans pretty much every day anyway.

I haven't done this program, but I have cooked for it. (I'm a personal chef.) You might already be familiar with the blog Fat-Free Vegan. I remember using that for recipes. I have a copy of Fuhrman's 3 Steps to Incredible Health that is sitting in my library donation box. It has meal plans and over 150 recipes. If you would like me to mail it to you, PM me your mailing address. Unfortunately I deleted my Mastercook cookbook of Eat to Live recipes in a recent MC cleanup. :-( And I can't remember the client's name so my attempt to search my client tracking spreadsheet for the list of recipes I made for him was fruitless.

Thank you Patti that would be great! I'll PM you now. So you had a client or clients that did the program? Do you know if they liked it and if it worked for them? Thanks for reminding me about that blog also, I'm sure I'll find helpful recipes there.

The client was years ago and my gig was a two time thing to get him jumpstarted. I don't know if he stuck with it, my gut feeling is probably not because he was not inclined to do the work involved with preparing his own meals.

The book is going to Julie. It's the only Eat to Live materials that I still have.

Please let us know how you're doing on the program! I will Barbara! We'll probably start it officially at the beginning of October. I'll report back soon.
