I've always hated beer. Hated isn't strong enough a word. There are tons of small craft brewers in the area and I thought I'd give it a try. My first was a Porter style. WOW. Life changing, in a good way. I was making a venison shoulder roast in the crockpot and used a cheap store bought beer; took a sip and nearly gagged. Yup; hate isn't strong enough to describe the ick. Got me reading up on beer and beer styles and small brewers. Guess I'm just curious if there are any beer lovers/drinkers out there and if yes, what do you enjoy.

I've never understood people's love of beer. (A slice of lime helps to make it a bit tastier for me.) I normally order a bourbon and coke. Yum. OR a Tequila Collins (a great mixer to make one is hard to find, but worth the search. That's my all-time-ever fav drink).

LOL, Karen. I never understood the fascination with beer either---even after 40+ years living in WI....craft beer is nothing like the "other" stuff to me. But I get where you're coming from!
Catbatty, I'm not big on fruity drinks---I'd rather have a scotch, bourbon or an aged rum, neat.

Interesting about craft beer. I don't normally drink beer—it's kind of meh. The only alcohol I like is the sweet kind—like dessert wines.

DH and I both like beer. Finding a new beer - like Saint Arnold from Houston area in Texas. Trying something new when traveling. Many old favorites are from Europe - Carlsberg from Denmark, Heineken from the Netherlands. Years ago we happened to spend a day in Brussels when the annual awards were given out for best beers. Lots of fantastic tastes to sample - just taste - no heavy drinking. Booths were set up on Grand Place in old city center and people came in nice clothes to partake in the event. Texas Shiner Bock is my go-to cooking beer. As I can't tolerate much alcohol without getting sleepy moderation is the name of the game. Same with wine that we also both enjoy. Everyone has their taste

Swedishcook, I just learned something from your post. I thought Heineken was German, so I happy you posted that! I'll have to look for Bock style. I had some IPA and it makes a refreshing hot-summer beer; still loving the Porter style best so far.

DH says if a brewery can produce a light beer that still has great flavor that says a lot for the brewery. But again, tastes differ so much.
