My cousin asked me to tell her more about using copper cookware. She would like a set that includes several saucepans, a skillet, a high-sided sauté pan, and a medium stockpot for soups. I think she would prefer something in a mid-range price - not Walmart and not Williams Sonoma prices. She says she wants to LOVE cooking them. I think a stainless steel interior would be best. Can you make some suggestions on brands to review? I see that Costco has a Mauviel set, which may be a good starting point.
Thanks,
Alice

I have a friend who has been using her Revere Ware copper-clad, stainless steel cookware for 68 years. The set includes all of the pans you mentioned. After all this time we are ordering new handles for two pans, for her.

Mauviel is considered one of the better lines (French, I believe). As an aside, does she have a specific reason why copper? They will require routine maintenance because copper oxidizes, especially when not used often. It is easy to use an acidic cleaner but still, needs to be done. Traditional french copper pans use tin for the lining and are handed down and re-tinned as required. I'm sure enough people will post that buying sets is sometimes not as useful because you end up not needing all the pans.... Hope she enjoys them and has fun cooking in them!

Thanks for the replies. I don't see that Revere Ware still makes the copper pots that your neighbor has used for decades. I see the Mauviel line in several places, including Costco. I think she wants copper pots because of appearance, looking pretty on her pot rack. I recommended stainless steel interiors because she may not be ready to handle the re-tinning process. I have asked her to go to stores to look at pans herself, so she will have an idea of what feels good in her hands.
