Did anyone save the "CLBB Cyber Kitchen Cookbook" that was available for download 1-2 years ago? This is not the same one that members could save in 2004.
Quote: "Section 1 is breakfast mostly yummies like muffins and sweet bread things; Section 2 is "starters; Section 3 is sides/soups/salads; Section 4 is main course. Section 5 is desserts."

I don't remember that one? Where was it posted? Was it a pdf file like the other one? I think only one existed. We had a fair amount of discussion on this before CL pulled the plug on the BB, and Beth said she hopes people will hold off a little on sharing it. (It's before my time, & I don't have it.) The original links to the download are broken, & the original intent was to download it for free, & then donate to charity whatever you would normally have spent on a great cookbook. Beth is hoping that the file can be revived with its original plan, maybe in a revised version since it's been 12 years or so. She's swamped right now but hopes to come over to this board in the next several days; let's give her time to check in here. In the meantime, if there's a specific recipe anyone needs, many of us wore out our fingers with copy-and-paste maneuvers & have saved a lot of the recipes (cookieee most of all, but she's not with us here--yet). I know we can't just upload stuff b/c of c/r issues, but I'm sure we'll all be happy to help out if there's a beloved recipe you missed out on saving. And the MyRecipes links to CL recipes seem to be intact.

I have the cookbook - it's broken into 7 sections (due to size, I suspect). I'm missing Section 5, but I'm digging deep to see if I can find it elsewhere. Send me a private message with your email address if you want me to forward them to you.
1) Intro Breakfasts 2) Starters Soups Salads 3) Side Sauces 4) Main Course 6) Index 7) Breads Desserts

Sandy, I have all the sections you listed in my May 9 2004 paper copy. I don't have the Index tho. Nothing extra at my end so section 5 may be a mislabel or something maybe? Wow, such a trip down memory lane to look back in this thing. I saw your Beet salad with goat cheese and walnuts recipe!

Perhaps you can just send index so I can see what's in it first?

I have the CLBB CyberKitchen Virtual Cookbook. NAtasha and I were waiting to see if Time/CL expressed any interest in doing a publication. I am taking their silence as a no and am seeking input, from Natasha and others, about possibly doing an update -- whether we want to do an update and, if so, how we would do it. The origonal book consisted of favorite recipes nominated by the members. Jeanne (Greysangel) collected the nominations and compiled the list to be included as well as the recipes. She then had some help with some of the review, formatting and such. It was then distributed as a set of digital files -- pdfs. I don't have the ability to edit the original, so for me at least, any update would have to be in the form of a part two or a supplement and perhaps a combined index.
Sandy and others, the original publication was made with receipients making a charitable donation in exchange for the work product. o honor that work, the request and the spirit of the collabrative effort, I would suggest that anyone who receives the files make a donation -- suggested amount was what you would spend on a cookbook as a minimum but consider more, and the suggested charities were ones combatting hunger and assisting women.
Gail, you were infrequnt, but still here -- There was a thread where Jeanne was trying o get certain members to submit their nominated recipes. You and I were both on the list of those who had not yet replied. I know Psycho Chicken was one, but perhaps not your only one in there.
I think it would be good to see if we can get a list of included recipes -- we need to know what we are updating. I will look and see if I have a list in a format I can post.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
Any why am I a carrot? I chose a different one. More to learn.....

Sandy did send me a copy of the index to the second book and there wasn't anything in it which looked familiar to me. But then again, I have no recollection of the first book, so if Psycho Chick didn't nest there it wouldn't surprise me. If someone contacted me about it, I honestly don't recall. PS Glad to see you made it here. You can ignore my Facebook messages. PPS I had a very good friend who was a carrot. Carrots are good people. Or vegetables. Whatever.

Natasha and I exchanged ideas via email before I was able to get back here. I need to pull out the old files and look at them. I can't believe Psycho Chicken didn't make it. It will definitely have to make Part 2 (we need a better name than Part 2).
I am going to get familiar here (or try to) and go through those old CL Cookbooko files -- both to look at what is there and what isn't and to see if I can copy or create an index that we can post here. We need to have a starting point for what will go in part 2 (well, Psycho Chicken for one, but beyond that).

Gail -- Psycho Chicken and Mango bread are in the cookbook -- contributed by you. I couldn't imagine that psycho chicken wouldn't have been LOL
ETA: There is a compiled listing of recipes at the end -- a pdf file. Trying to figgure out how to get it here without retyping the whole thing. Can't attach it and can't copy it.....
ETC: Editing to correct -- that last section is a list of the member's favorite CL recipes -- as of 2004, at least. They were not included in the cookbook other than that listing. I think it was a fear of copyright issues and perhaps some degree of effort for Still working on the index.

I am posting the lists of recipes from the 2004 CLBB Cookbook. Look them over, both to determine whethe the original is something you still need and to help us determine what isn't included and should be considered for a Part 2. I will start a separate thread for part 2 recipe nominations. I will break these up for easier review. Keep in mnd that these are user recipes, not CL recipes. There was a separate list of CL Favorites that included the magazine issue it came from. Those may or may not still be on the website, but I suspect tat at the time we believed they all would continue to be available.

Beth, it was such a fun trip down memory lane reading those lists! Wow! All the sudden I'm remembering making a lot of those dishes, and I'm remembering discussions about them fondly. I had a computer crash last summer and lost everything in my Mastercook from all my years on the CLBB. I still have the computer and the hard drive, hoping that someday I can figure out how to boot it up long enough to pull things off the hard drive. But considering there were sparks and smoke when the computer died...

Wow. Sparks and smoke?!!! Yikes. YES! I have never moved so fast in my life. I wasn't using the computer at the time, but was nearby. I disconnected that computer SO fast and got it out to the garage. When I opened it up later to see the damage, I was surprised to see none, so I'm fairly sure it was the power supply that went bad. Still. It was scary, and I was really glad it chose a moment to do that when I was home. It was ten years old though, so honestly, it had a good run.

Depending on what was going on, the hard drive might be fine. You (or someone) could probably remove it and hook it up to another computer to see what can be read and recovered. But at least as far as the CLBB cookbook, we have that (all the recipes on the category lists -- and I bet some of us will have a lot of the ones on the CL favorites list too. I think in part 2 we might want to include those that we can. They won't be around online forever. I was checking on the two tiramisu recipes and think I had one but couldn't find the other. I think I eventually did -- and one may be in e printed cookbook IIRC. Anyway - that's something to consider. And we know you can recover those we have and can pull together. May take a little time, but we can post individual ones and work on the compiled ones.

I guess I'm going senile. I've found posts from myself in 2004, but I have no recollection of being a regular contributor at that point despite there looking to be about six recipes in that first collection which came from me. This getting older stuff is for the birds! I DO know I don't have a copy of that book, and that I remember a number of the recipes in it (but considerably less in the second other than some from the magazine itself.) Is there a way to get ahold of it?

Beth, it was such a fun trip down memory lane reading those lists! Wow! All the sudden I'm remembering making a lot of those dishes, and I'm remembering discussions about them fondly. I had a computer crash last summer and lost everything in my Mastercook from all my years on the CLBB. I still have the computer and the hard drive, hoping that someday I can figure out how to boot it up long enough to pull things off the hard drive. But considering there were sparks and smoke when the computer died... Just to give you some modicum of hope, the week that the CLBB went down forever I logged on, typed for a few moments then noticed something smelled really bad. As I was sussing out the source, I noticed smoke in the room and ran to call my husband. (what a wuss!) As we came back into the room, flames started coming out of the top of the tower. We unplugged it and the fire went out immediately. It has since been in the shop, repair made and I'm typing on it now. There was no loss to any of the data. So maybe....? (fingers crossed for you)

But considering there were sparks and smoke when the computer died... Sparks and smoke??? Sounds like Bob's toaster. Remember bobmark of the CLBB? His thread about a toaster fire (and a narrowly avoided kitchen fire) is the reason I unplug my toaster after every use. So glad you were home to stop it!

The unplugging of the toaster, that is. I am always unplugging things when they are not in use, with the exception of the Keurig, which needs to have hot water at the ready at all times. I always think of Bob's kitchen fire that started at his toaster as I pull plugs. I think it did torch part of the kitchen, because I vaguely recall people asking if we could throw him a little online party to replace some of his kitchen items and he thanked us, but insisted insurance would take care of things.

Gail, I chuckled to read what you didn't remember because you have remember so much more than I have. So much has happened since then. And I tried to find and read the threads about the cookbook and saw a post by you that seemed to indicate your surprise that you had recipes nominated and that Jeanne was waiting to hear from you about including them. You may have popped in because someone contacted, said okay and gone back to the other things that were keeping you busy. I wouldn't worry about it.

So I must've told her it was OK if they were included... Oh, and JeAnne was for a time participating in the site where I was working, so I guess if I hadn't contacted her she would've said something to me then. Man. This is like someone else's life.
