Not an ooh, I get to buy something fun for my kitchen. I just need some new oven mitts and there seems to be so many choices, from the traditional "cotton" ones, to silicone, to a combo.
I have a few and they just aren't cutting it now. I have one silicone one that works great as far as keeping the heat out but it is big, clunky, hard to grab some items --- I think it is one of those Orka Silicone ones. I've had it for years. The other mitts seemed to be fine, but now heat is getting thru a bit.
Any suggestions? Materials that you like?
I often use my Lodge cast iron skillet in the oven and that thing gets super hot.
I looked on Amazon and they seems to sell what looks like real similar mitts but simply made by different companies (like the manufacture just slaps different labels on each).
Any suggestions would be great. I want one that is fairly flexible (for example my handles on my Le Creuset aren't that large, so need something that easy to grasp the handles).
Thanks.

Lodge makes some super duper suede gloves for grill type work. I just have cotton-batting type and they are over all, pretty good. My theory is that if they are thick and protective enough, they are hard to fiddle with handles, but that's just been my experience.

Thanks everyone.
Wallycat, I have a slicone one that it is kind of joke how inflexible/big it is. No way could it really be used if you want to grab a small handle or something.
I used to just any cotton mitts and never really thought about it -- I kind of just picked out the one with the a color/pattern that I liked. My Lodge skillet gets so hot, that I want to make sure I get one that does the job.

I do have the silicone handle that I sometimes use but only when the pan is already on the stovetop --- basically to remind myself and others that it is HOT! But I never use it alone or with something to lift it. It does come in handy.
I've never checked the Lodge website for products, maybe I shouldn't..... Thx for mentioning.

Reporting back. I ordered the wonderful oven mitts from Lodge only to find that they were huge. Admittedly I have small hands but these were big even for my husband. They have now been returned after I sent Lodge a picture of my hands placed over the mitts. After that I started my own search. Apparently high quality oven mitts are now big and, according to reviews, often bulky, making me wonder who the target customers are. Luckily a found a pair for small/medium/youth size by Red Lantana. They are silicon and work OK. Would have preferred "fabric" so I won't toss my old ones yet.

Since those didn't work out for you, I thought I would look to see if I could still find the ones I have been using. I have some that were Kitchenaid in red and blue. They are now sold as OXO and I am seeing them only in black right now. They are actually a potholder/mitt hybrid that you can put your hand inside like a mitt but they are shaped like a potholder -- I use them both with my hand inside and not depending on what I am grabbing. They are my DH's favorite also. www.target.com/p/oxo-silicone-pot-holder-with-magnet-charcoal/-/A-16965069

My husband and I just had this conversation--I have one old, ragged potholder that I love above all others--it's that nubbly cotton and it's a pocket you put your hand in (it's square). I've looked everywhere for similar ones, to no avail. Lovely DH searched did some web searching and found some on Amazon that looked exactly right---only when they arrived, they didn't have any pockets, they were just flat. (he was really disappointed). I have silicone ones but as others have mentioned, they're too bulky to work well for me. Now I'm yearning after the kind they use on Great British Baking Show, that's sort of a long skinny towel with pockets sewn into either end....

I got an email from Food 52 this morning -- they have one of those l ong skinny towel type mitts. They are linen and not cheap, but they look nice.

Sorry about that. I was traveling and wasn't able to check it. Try this -- you can see the ones I was talking about (show up as the second one on my screen) as well as ssome leather mitts and suede potholders. I have used suede before -- work well too. food52.com/shop/kitchen/kitchen-linens
